What is Fivehundrd?

Fivehundrd is a public wall where independent makers (musicians, writers, artists, game makers, podcasters and newsletter writers) show their work, free for now, in one of 500 numbered spots per lane for 72 hours.

How does a spot work?

Each lane has 500 numbered spots. A maker picks one, adds a name, artwork, a short pitch (up to 140 characters), up to three links and, depending on the lane, an audio preview, the first pages or a trailer. Once placed, the spot is live straight away for 72 hours, then the number is free again.

How much does it cost?

Nothing, for now: while the wall fills up, a spot is free for 72 hours. A price will be shown before you place, once paid spots start. Browsing, opening, keeping and sharing spots is free.

Is there an algorithm or a feed?

No feed, and no algorithm deciding what you see. Everyone sees the same numbered wall, and each visitor begins at a different spot. Above the wall, Hotspots shows five spots with traction right now (opens, visits to the maker, scouts and shares in the last hours, per person and per time seen); a spot's turn there fades after a few hours, so it keeps changing. Or switch to Newest.

Which lanes are there?

Music, Books, Games, Creators, Podcasts and Newsletters: 500 spots each, 3,000 in total.

Do I need an account?

No. Browsing and scouting never need an account; your Scouts are kept in your browser. Signing in is optional: it makes what you scout a call and keeps your Scouts on every device.

What happens after 72 hours?

The spot leaves the wall and its number opens up for the next maker. The story's lasting link keeps working, so shared links and Scouts still show who it was and where to find them.

Can I get a refund?

If your spot can't go live after you paid (for example because it was taken off the wall before it started), the payment is refunded automatically. For anything else, contact us and we'll look at it.

How is the wall kept safe?

Every story is checked against the wall rules: its links automatically before it goes live, and its name, texts and images by an automatic check or by a person. Anyone can report a live story; reported stories are reviewed by a person and can be taken down.

Is Fivehundrd free for visitors?

Yes. There are no ads and no paywall. Visitors don't pay anything.
